The Joys of Ready Meals

Christian often cooks the most elaborate and delicious looking dishes (although he will insist on filling the kitchen with giant dead shrimps, which terrify me.)

Yesterday I witnessed him meticulously preparing a fancy, creamy prawn dish and just as I was thinking "How does he have the time to make all of these gourmet courses?" I spotted him take a Tescos ready-made lasagne out of the microwave to eat while he was waiting for the prawns to cook. Spot the contradiction!

This made me think about my friend's step-mum who, eager to please, used to prepare him meals so that when he came home from a hard day at work he could just reheat them and sit down to a nice home cooked meal. One day, when he was at work I was able to witness the process in detail. Said step-mother went to the fridge, took out a ready meal, transferred it to a similar sized dish so that it looked homemade, cooked it in the oven and then left it to cool just for him to reheat in the microwave when he got home. It seemed a rather bizarre way to carry on but then it kept them happy so who am I to judge?
