Corny film ending #1 - The Park Bench

What is it about a park bench that's so uplifting that these seats make it into the final moments of so many films?
You know the drill, 87 minutes of hardcore action, gruesome horror or gritty drama, all sweetened off with 50 seconds of the lead actors sitting on a park bench smiling or chatting.
If my memory serves me right, the following are just a few examples, Panic Room, Notes on a Scandal, Freedom Land and Blue Velvet.
Unfortunately I haven't bothered to capture any footage to backup my observation but you mark my words, at least one of the next five films you watch will end with a scene in a park, probably containing some form of wooden bench.

Oh no - I've just remembered that "My Cat Geoffrey" ended with a park bench scene. I am such a hypocrite!
A scene in a park conveys the opportunity to refelct on past events and thus draw closure. Whilst there may be a few exceptions, ending a film half way through a car chase would probably not work for most films.
It's a very well composed photo by the way.
