A Fabulous Exit

A Fabulous ExitShe had been fading for some time. Conversation had become brief and farther between. She was noticeably duller and made occasional unfamiliar and eerie sounds. In summary, she was a shadow of her former self.

But then, just before she died she became suddenly animated and burst into song; a few seconds of beautiful song. It was as if in her final hours of life she'd been collecting strength for that beautiful last moment before her departure.

This would all be very sweet and moving, were I talking about a dying loved one and not a sodding mobile phone.

Just before the battery dies - always at a really annoying moment - my phone displays a full screen animation announcing its demise and plays a fanfare. The power consumed by this ridiculous finale could be used for at least a minute of conversation or two or three texts, yet I'm robbed of these in favour of the animated reminder of which network I would be using, had the handset any power left within.
